Kansas City Mavericks News Release
INDEPENDENCE, Missouri - The 'Miracle' vibes were flowing through the Mavericks as they took their second win of the season over the Quad City Mallards in front of Olympic 'Miracle on Ice' legends, Ken Morrow, Buzz Schneider, Dave Christian, and Mike Eruzione.
The Mavericks played host to a special 'PINK in the RINK' night and the 'Do YOU Believe in Miracles' event with their 10th sold out arena of the season.
Quad City was first on the board in the first period, but the Mavericks were determined to keep the game under their control and Eric Castonguay tied it up at 1-1 before the end of the first, assisted by Sebastien Thinel and Mike Ramsay.
Then Evan Vossen tallied his fourth goal in the last four games for the Mavericks off a feed from Tyler Currier to give the Mavericks the 1-goal edge in the second period that they would carry until the final 30 seconds of play when Trevor Kell notched an empty netter to seal the deal at 3-1.
Shane Owen put up a spectacular performance in goal, making 33 saves in the night to hold off the aggressive Mallards.
The two points the Mavericks earned Saturday night push them into first place along with the Rapid City Rush and Allen Americans with 54 points.
The Mavericks play their next game at home on Tuesday, February 4th against the Allen Americans. The first 1,000 ladies in attendance will receive a free gift from Kennedy's Custom Jewelers as part of their diamond giveaway! Tickets are available at TicketMaster.com and the Silverstein EyeCenters Box Office.
