Allen, Texas - The Allen Americans and Wichita Thunder faced off Saturday night at the Allen Event Center for the second game of their two-game series. The physical matchup saw four power play goals, with Wichita claiming a 4-2 win.
The Americans struck late in the first period to take a 1-0 lead heading into the first intermission. Jonathan Lessard lit the lamp on the power play, assisted by Daniel Tetrault and Darryl Bootland. Allen held a commanding lead in shots on goal after one period with a count of 24-6 over the Thunder.
Wichita answered back scoring two power play goals, 58 seconds apart, in the second period. Mike Wilson slid the puck past American goalie Mark Guggenberger, assisted by Tomas Klempa and Andrew Martens at the 15:40 mark to tie the game 1-1. Wichita quickly took a 2-1 lead at the 16:38 mark when Matt Robinson netted the puck, assisted by Mike Wilson and Andrew Martens.
Allen tied the game 2-2 with 21 seconds remaining in the period on yet another power play goal. Daniel Tetrault fired the puck past Thunder goalie Taylor Nelson, with the lone assist going to Kale Kerbashian. Both teams headed into the intermission tied 2-2 but Wichita held the edge in shots in the second with 16-6 advantage.
Wichita saw the only two goals on the third period, with the first coming from Erick Lizon at the 10:57 mark of the frame. The goal, his second of the season, was assisted by Mike Wilson, giving the Thunder a 3-2 lead. Wichita secured the 4-2 win when Matt Robinson netted his second of the night and team-high 20 th of the season at the 17:32 mark, assisted by Ian Lowe and Jon Booras. Wichita continued to hold the edge in shots with 11-4 on the period.
American forward Greger Hanson reached a milestone during tonight's game, playing in his 100 th professional game.
With the loss, their second in a row, Allen falls to 25-12-4 on the season and 2-2-1 against Wichita. The Americans begin their four-game road trip, Tuesday night in Missouri.
