Mavericks Take a Seventh over Oilers

INDEPENDENCE, Missouri - The Missouri Mavericks defeated the Tulsa Oilers for the seventh time of the season on Saturday night in front of their ninth sold out crowd at the Independence Events Center since their home-opener in November.

The Oilers were the first on the board, scoring for Tulsa was forward Adam Pleskach at the 3:30 mark of the period. The Mavs caught up quickly when Colt King snapped a puck past the Oilers' Shane Madolora, assisted by Colten Hayes and Eric Castonguay to tie the game at 1-1. Before the end of the first twenty minutes of play, Matt Stephenson added his name to the score sheet, tallying his fourth goal of the season against Tulsa with a perfect feed from Colt King and Henrik - degaard.

The Mavs held a 2-1 lead heading into the second period, but Team Captain Sebastien Thinel expanded the Missouri lead in the opening five minutes to edge the Oilers 3-1. Adam Pleshkach put up another point for Tulsa to make a game of it 3-2 Mavericks.

Third period underway, the Mavs began on the penalty kill in their opening "Minute of Madness." Relentless attacks in the Tulsa end of the ice paid off with not one, but two third period goals for the Mavs via Mike Ramsay and Evan Vossen to take a commanding 5-2 control of the scoreboard. The Oilers were able to sneak one more goal past Shane Owen, but Missouri's defenses held to win the match 5-3.

The Mavericks play their next game on the road in St. Charles against the Chill on Wednesday, January 29th. This will be the sixth game of the "Show Me Cup" series between the two in-state rivals. The Mavericks return home on Friday, January 31st to take on the Denver Cutthroats at 7:05pm. The first 750 fans age 14 and under will receive a USA youth giveaway jersey upon entrance to the Independence Events Center.
