Allen, Tx. - St. Charles took an early lead on a goal from Martin Hlinka but the Allen Americans tied the game late in the opening period and added a power play goal in the second and third for a 3-1 win Sunday night at the Allen Events Center.
St. Charles (9-27-5) got off to the quick start, cashing in on the first power play of the night when Hlinka scored his eighth of the season, assisted by Charles Lachance and Nick Schneider, crashing the net to shove in a rebound for a 1-0 lead at the 6:21 mark. The Chill killed off back-to-back penalties following the goal as Linus Lundin posted nine saves on 10 shots, but the final shot against of the period came in the two minutes as the Americans (25-10-4) tied the score at 1-1 entering the first intermission.
The intensity picked up in the second period and the play continued even, with the shots at 11-10 to slightly favor Allen. Both teams were hit with matching minors twice in the period as the physical play picked up but it was a call against the Chill that led to a goal from the American's Tyler Ludwig with just over five minutes to play in the second period that gave the home team a 2-1 edge after two periods.
