BOSSIER CITY, LA - The Missouri Mavericks erased a three-goal first period deficit on their way to a 5-3 victory over the Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs Saturday night at CenturyTel Center. Missouri scored twice in the second and three more times in the third to complete the comeback and hand the Mudbugs their 12th loss of the season (17-12-1).

Justin Aikins, David Rutherford and Jeff Kyrzakos all scored in the first period as the ‘Bugs dominated the opening frame before being outshot 23-5 over the last 40 minutes. John DeCaro stopped 28 shots in his seventh loss of the season.

Despite going 0 for 6 on the powerplay in the first period, the Mudbugs still took a 3-0 lead into the locker room after 20 minutes. Justin Aikins got it started for the ‘Bugs, finishing off a 2-on-1 break with Brett Smith to make it 1-0 at 14:43. David Rutherford scored his first goal of the season less than a minute later, getting a long feed from Neil Clark and then going around a defenseman before beating Alexandre Vincent with a backhand shot to the far post. Then with only 1:30 remaining in the period, Jeff Kyrzakos tipped in a long point drive by Clay Plume, giving the Mudbugs a three-goal advantage after one.

Missouri came out firing in the second period, outshooting Bossier-Shreveport 13-1 and scoring twice to get back in the game. Jeff MacDermid got Missouri on the board, picking up a Mudbugs turnover at center and roofing the puck over DeCaro's shoulder from in tight at 8:13. Later in the period it was Tommy Lange tipping in a shot on the powerplay to get the Mavs within one at 3-2 after 40 minutes.

The visitors picked up where they left off in the third period when Bill Vandermeer's backhander found the top corner on the powerplay, making it 3-3 at 7:01. Tommy Lange jammed in a cross ice pass right on the doorstep to put the Mavericks on top for good at 13:30, and Nick Sirota punctuated the victory three minutes later with the fifth and final Mavericks goal.

DeCaro drops to 9-7-1 in defeat, while Alexandre Vincent stopped 16 of 19 shots in the victory. The Mudbugs finished 0 for 6 on the powerplay, but the Mavericks converted 2 of their 7 chances. Missouri outshot the Mudbugs 33-19 in the game.

The Mudbugs will now embark on their longest road trip of the season, playing their next five games away from home. The road trip will start with a second straight game against Missouri Tuesday night at the brand new Independence Events Center. Opening faceoff is set for 7:05 pm as the ‘Bugs make their first-ever visit to Missouri to meet the Mavs for the third time this year.
