Kansas City Mavericks News Release

Independence, Missouri - June 24, 2014 -- The Missouri Mavericks announced Tuesday morning that they have re-signed veteran forwards, Andrew Courtney and John-Scott Dickson to the 2014-15 Missouri Mavericks roster on a standard player agreement.

"We wanted to get these two signed as quickly as possible," said Brent Thiessen, Missouri Mavericks President & General Manager, "these guys have formed a great core of our team."

While both of these players are seasoned with Independence Events Center and the Orange Army Fan Club, it will be the first time either of them skate under the leadership of the Missouri Mavericks new head coach, Richard Matvichuk, who was introduced as the second head coach in franchise history on Thursday, June 12th.

"Andrew Courtney and John-Scott Dickson have been part of this team for a long time; the depth and experience they bring to a locker room made it an easy decision for the Missouri Mavericks to welcome them back as leaders and key playmakers," said Head Coach Richard Matvichuk. "These guys are fan favorites and great role models in the community."

Courtney, native to Belleville, Ontario has played for Missouri for the past four consecutive seasons, netting a total of 83 goals for the Mavs, and setting a new franchise record last season for single-season goals (34). The 6'3", 207lb forward finished the 2013-14 regular season with 34 goals, 34 assists, +12, and 65 penalty minutes, riding a 15-game point streak that continued into the Mavericks playoff run.

"Today is a great day," said Courtney upon re-signing with Missouri, "I am very happy to be back with the Mavericks and look forward to playing for Coach Matvichuk. I love being a Maverick, and I cannot wait to don the Mavs jersey for another year. There is still unfinished business, with the ultimate goal of bringing a championship to Independence. I look forward to laying everything on the line with my teammates to make that happen."

John-Scott Dickson has played for the Mavericks for the past 3 seasons, contributing 68 goals and 74 assists through his career in Missouri. Dickson, a 6'3", 215lb left wing hails from North York, Ontario. He finished the last week of the regular season off the ice due to an injury, but finished with 20 goals, 17 assists, and 25 penalty minutes. Dickson has proven himself a vital addition to the Missouri special teams force, scoring 5 power play goals and tallying 4 power play assists last season, with 22 PPGs and 14 PPAs to show for his career with the Mavs.

"I am thrilled to be back with the Mavericks," said Dickson on Tuesday morning, "this is a first class organization from top to bottom. Playing in front of the Orange Army every night is a special experience, and I am looking forward to getting the season started."
