Mavericks Lose Fifth Straight To Odessa

ODESSA, Texas - The Missouri Mavericks lost their fifth straight game Tuesday night, 8-1, to the Odessa Jackalopes at Ector County Coliseum. Collin Circelli, Paul Kelly and Kory Korlander all scored two goals for Odessa and seven players had multiple points in the game. The Jackalopes scored seven goals in the final two periods and four in the third period to run away with the victory. Mavericks' player/assistant coach Jeff Christian scored Missouri's lone goal of the game. Missouri will head home for a couple days before playing a pair of games this weekend in Wichita.

In a pre-game ceremony, Mavericks' Head Coach Scott Hillman was honored by the Jackalopes. Missouri's head coach played eight seasons with Odessa and is the team's all-time leader in games played (446).

Jackalopes' forward Paul Kelly scored the lone goal of the first period when the home team had an extra attacker on the ice. Kelly took a feed from Alex Dunn and beat Mavericks' goaltender Mike Gorman with a quick snapshot. Missouri held the edge in shots in the first period at 11-10, but it was the Jackalopes that had a 1-0 lead.

Mavericks forward Jeff Christian tied the game at one early in the second period on a power play goal. Bill Vandermeer and Andrew Davis earned the assists on the goal, but that would prove to be all the offense the visitors could muster.

Odessa quickly answered to retake the lead on Collin Circelli's first of two goals and the Jacks never looked back. Kory Korlander scored on the power play and Circelli added his second goal of the period to give Odessa a 4-1 lead heading into the second intermission.

The Mavericks earned a power play 11 minutes into the third period, but it was Odessa that scored a pair of shorthanded goals just 12 seconds apart to make it a 6-1 game. Paul Kelly and Alex Dunn finished the scoring for the Jacks in the final five minutes to cap a four-goal third period and finalize the score at 8-1.

Missouri finished 1-5 on the power play and allowed two goals in seven chances for Odessa. Goaltender Juha Toivonen stopped 25 of 26 shots for Odessa as they improved their record to 4-1-1. Missouri fell to 0-5-0 and is still looking for the first win in team history.

The Mavericks have four games left in the team's nine-game road trip to start the season. Missouri will open up at the brand-new Independence Events Center on Friday, November 13 against the Wichita Thunder.
