CHECKING THE RIVALRY

The Mavericks are facing the Mallards tonight for the sixth of 10 meetings this season and the third of five at Silverstein Eye Centers Arena. The Mavericks are 2-2-1 against the Mallards this season after a 5-2 win in Independence last night. The Mavericks and Mallards have made a habit of playing close games in their season series. Four of the first five games have been decided by a single goal, and the game-winning goal in four of their first five matchups has been scored in the third period or overtime. Jumping out to an early lead has been tumultuous, as well, because the team to score first has seen its opponent come back to tie or take the lead in four prior games. Last night's contest was the first in the season series to be decided by more than a goal.

ONE-TIMER * Darren Nowick's five-game point streak (3g, 5a) is the longest of his career. He is the only Maverick player that has skated in all 39 games this season and Nowick has at least one point in 22 of them.
