INDEPENDENCE, Missouri - The Missouri Mavericks split the weekend series on the road in Denver with a 6-3 victory over the Cutthroats.

Denver was first on the board in the opening period, but the Mavericks were able to hold the Cutthroats to that single opportunity through the first 20 minutes of play. Missouri made several attempts to get on the board, with 12 shots on goal, but Denver goaltender Kent Patterson was up to the challenge.

Trailing 0-1 entering the second period, the Mavericks continued to attack the Denver net, but it was not until Missouri's first power play opportunity that they would put a tally on the scoreboard. Defenseman Mathieu Gagnon notched his first goal as a Maverick assisted by John-Scott Dickson and Trevor Kell to tie the game 1-1 and Mike Ramsay edged the fish 2-1 for the Mavs with another power play goal in the final minute of the period, assisted by Matt Stephenson and Eric Castonguay.

Missouri wasted no time strengthening their lead at the top of the third as Colt King opened the final period of play with a lamp-lighter, assisted by Anders Franzon and Trevor Kell to take a 2-goal lead over Denver. Troy Schwab answered back for the Cutthroats, to come within 1-goal of the Mavericks again. The Mavs kept the pressure on high, even on a Denver power play when Evan Vossen capitalized with a short-handed goal aided by Trevor Kell.

Denver had one more goal in them, and Cam Reid pulled his team back into the game before Andrew Courtney snatched it away again for the Mavericks with an even-strength goal with just over 2 minutes left in the contest. Evan Vossen and Obi Aduba were credited with the helpers on Courtney's goal.

The Cutthroats pulled net-minder Kent Patterson for the extra attacker, but Mike Ramsay was standing by for an easy pass from Sebastien Thinel and make and easy empty net goal to seal Denver's fate in the last minute of play. Missouri captured their well-earned redemption to split the weekend series in Denver with a 6-3 victory.

Missouri will return home to the Independence Events Center on Tuesday, February 25th to face-off against the Allen Americans at 7:05pm. The Mavericks won their last contest with the Americans 5-2 at home, in a heated and aggressive match that ended with 156 penalty minutes.
