Sundogs Fall to Rush in Shootout

Prescott Valley, AZ - The Arizona Sundogs fell to the Rapid City Rush 2-1, in a shootout Friday night at the Rushmore Plaza Civic Center. Andrew Engelage made 34 saves and the Sundogs were awarded a point in the shootout.

After two periods of play neither team had cracked the scoreboard, remaining scoreless. Early in the first Riley Emmerson and Justin Sawyer squared off and were each assessed five minute fighting majors 2:05 into the period. 1:15 later Garrett Clarke took a call for boarding sending the Rush on their first of six power plays of the night. Arizona began the second period down a man after being called for a delay of game bench minor at the conclusion of the opening period. The Sundogs' failure to wait for the referee's que to leave the bench resulted in their third penalty kill. The second period saw more great scoring opportunities for each team however neither team were able to connect on the goals.

The Sundogs broke the deafening silence 2:02 into the third period with an unassisted goal by Emmerson giving Arizona the short lived lead. Rapid City struck on their sixth power play opportunity 6:13 in, when Sean Erickson ripped the puck past goalie, Engelage with assists from Scot Wray and Jared Brown. With the game undecided in regulation the game was pushed into overtime and following that, a three-round shootout where Rush scored on each of their shots, while the Sundogs were unsuccessful on theirs.

Engelage posted 34 saves on 35 shots. Rapid City outshot Arizona 35-28. The Sundogs received two power play opportunities after Rapid City's Jared Brown was given a four minute double-minor for high sticking. The Rush were 1-6 on the man-advantage.
