Kansas City Mavericks News Release
INDEPENDENCE, Missouri - The Missouri Mavericks take a tough 0-3 shutout loss to the Wichita Thunder on Sunday night at the Intrust Bank Arena.
The Thunder were on the board early in the first period, edging the Mavericks 2-0 by the time 11 minutes had passed. Missouri was unable to find their way onto the board through the second period, but also kept the Thunder from tallying any more points.
Despite a top-ranked power play heading into tonight's matchup, the Mavs were unable to capitalize on two power play opportunities, but did manage to shut down the Thunder's man-advantaged efforts.
The Thunder made their final strike over the Mavericks witth an empty net goal to shut Missouri out 3-0 and claim the two points needed to edge the Mavericks in the Independence Cup series.
The Mavericks remain in the top spot of the Central Hockey League with the Allen Americans and Rapid City Rush idle tonight. Missouri plays its next game on the road in Allen on Friday night before returning home on Saturday to face the Americans again at home.
