Cutthroats Come out on Top

Denver - The Denver Cutthroats and Rapid City Rush wrapped up the week's three-game series on Saturday, February 8 at the Denver Coliseum. The Cutthroats held off a Rush comeback attempt to win the game 6-4, taking the series 2-1 off a hat trick from Troy Schwab.

Robin Soudek (Phil Tesoriero, Kyle Fletcher) opened the night with the Cutthroats first goal of the game. Rapid City's Konrad Reeder (Jesse Schultz, Winston Day Chief) matched Denver's goal to tie the score at one. Troy Schwab (Dan Barczuk, Garett Bembridge) fired a shot through traffic to find the back of the Rush net to gain a 2-1 lead. With his second goal of the night, Denver's Troy Schwab (Lee Moffie, Fletcher) extended the Cutthroats lead 3-1.

Denver Cutthroats J.P. Chabot (Steve Kaunisto, Bembridge) found a slot between the posts to score the team's fourth goal of the night. Sean Erickson (Schultz, Day Chief) cut the Rapid City's deficit by one with a shot past Denver's netminder Kent Patterson. Garett Bembridge (Schwab, Kaunisto) scored his 34th goal of the 2013-14 season to increase the Cutthroats lead 5-2 to end the period.

At the start of the third period, the Rapid City Rush scored a pair of goals in less than one minute. Jared Brown (Eric Giosa, Ryan Palmer) slapped a shot to the back of the Cutthroats net for the first. Konrad Reeder (Erickson, Schultz) with the second to pull the Rush within one. The Rush trying furiously to even the score in the final minute of the game, Troy Schwab lobbed a shot from the defensive zone to score on an empty Rush net and seal the victory for the Cutthroats 6-4. The final goal gave Schwab a hat trick, his first of the season.

The Denver Cutthroats will host the St. Charles Chill for a pair of games on Friday, February 14 and Saturday, February 15 at the Denver Coliseum. Fans are invited to join the Denver Cutthroats on Saturday night for a wedding at center ice.
