Mavericks Assigned Goaltender Mike Clemente from AHL Springfield

INDEPENDENCE, Missouri - The Missouri Mavericks announced Sunday the Central Hockey League (CHL) team has been assigned goaltender Mike Clemente from the American Hockey League's (AHL) Springfield Falcons. The Mavericks will open up training camp on Monday at Independence Events Center and the team is currently at 23 players signed to their camp roster.

"This speaks to the caliber of development we have in Missouri," said Mavericks' President and General Manager Brent Thiessen. "It proves that we are trusted as an organization to develop some of the top young talent at the AA level"

Clemente, 22 (1/9/90), enters his rookie season after playing the previous four seasons at Brown University. Upon the completion of his career at Brown, the Great Falls, Virginia native appeared in six games with AHL Springfield last season. In those six games, the 6-foot-2, 200-pound goaltender had a 2.99 goals-against average (GAA), .930 save percentage and one shutout with the Falcons.

"Mike is a very exciting prospect, and we are honored Springfield has selected the Mavericks to oversee his development this season," said Mavericks' Head Coach Scott Hillman. "The goaltenders that have played with our franchise have experienced a great deal of success in the CHL and we believe Mike will help us continue that tradition. His numbers were exceptional in the AHL last season and that speaks volumes about his ability to compete under pressure."

At Brown University, Clemente appeared in 107 games and played nearly 6,000 minutes over his four-year career. He finished with a 32-54-14 record and had a .908 save percentage and 3.03 GAA.

The Missouri Mavericks will begin their fourth season of play on October 19 on the road against the expansion Denver Cutthroats.
