Matty Johnson Hits Grand Slam In The 6-3 Win Over Lincoln

The Sioux City Explorers won game two of their three game series vs Lincoln, with a score of 6-3 at Haymarket Park. X's starter Ryan Zimmerman went the full nine innings while lead-off hitter Matty Johnson knocked in four with a grand slam in the fourth.
Explorers scored an unearned run in the third for the first run of the game, then four big runs in the fourth to take the quick 5-0 lead. In the fourth, Sioux City loaded the bases with two outs for X's centerfielder Matty Johnson. The speedy lead-off hitter chose to have his first home run of the season at the right time, hitting a grand slam to give the X's the 5-0 lead.
Lincoln plated their first run in the fifth, Saltdogs shortstop Mike Gilmartin hit a one out solo home run to cut the lead to four after five innings.
In the top half of the eighth, X's second baseman Ryan Court reached base on balls, advanced to third on a Tommy Mendonca base hit, and scored off a Matt Koch RBI single to give them six runs in the contest.
The Saltdogs went on to score runs in the eighth and ninth innings. In the eighth, Ryan Wiggins singled and later scored off a sac-fly RBI by lead-off hitter Matt Forgatch. Lincoln third baseman Curt Smith hit a solo-shot in the ninth to make it 6-3, which would be the final score in the contest.
Explorers starter Ryan Zimmerman (9-2) pitched a complete game with three runs allowed off five hits, one walk with five strikeouts. Lincoln right-hander Zach Varce (0-5) was charged with the loss allowing six runs (five earned) in eight innings pitched.
Explorers centerfielder Matty Johnson had the hot bat hitting a grand slam home run in the fourth inning. Designated hit Brent Keys had himself a three hit night with a run scored, and Ryan Court and Tommy Mendonca both finished with two hits on the contest.
