Matthew Knies Named USHL Forward of the Week

Kearney, NE. - The Tri-City Storm and the United States Hockey League have announced that Storm forward Matthew Knies has been named the USHL Forward of the Week following a six-point performance in Tri-City's back to back wins over Sioux City last weekend. It is the first weekly award won by a Storm player this season, and today's announcement marks the first time in Knies' USHL career that he has been named the Forward of the Week.

Matthew Knies, 17, of Phoenix, Arizona has skated in twenty-four of Tri-City's twenty-eight games this season and has scored seven goals and recorded fourteen assists. Knies missed four games prior to the holiday break to represent the United States of America in the 2019 World Junior A Challenge in Dawson Creek, British Columbia. Knies, along with teammates Mike Koster, Mitchell Miller, and Head Coach Anthony Noreen, won a Bronze Medal for their third-place finish in the event. Friday's game marked Knies' second multi-goal game in his USHL career. He netted two goals in Tri-City's 3-1 victory over Fargo on November 1st. Entering last weekend, Knies had not yet had a three-point game this season. With two goals and one assist in Friday's game, and one goal and two assists in Saturday's game, Knies recorded back to back three-point games for the first time in his USHL career. Knies was drafted 38th overall by the Storm in the 3rd Round of the 2018 USHL Phase I draft. He previously announced a commitment to play collegiate hockey at the University of Minnesota.
