Everett AquaSox News Release
The Seattle Mariners assigned Matt Tuiasosopo, their first pick in the 2004 draft, to the Everett AquaSox today. Tuisasosopo is expected to arrive in Everett, Wash. on Thursday, Aug. 5.
A shortstop out of Woodinville High School in Woodinville, Wash., Tuiasosopo was batting .412 (28x68) with the Mariners rookie league team in Peoria, Ariz. His statistics while with the Peoria team are listed below.
Tuiasosopo was drafted by the Mariners in the third round of the 2004 amateur draft. He was the 93rd selection overall in the draft. Seattle did not have first or second round picks in the draft because of free-agent signings.
Tuiasosopo had signed a letter of intent with the University of Washington to play football, but chose to sign with the Mariners after being drafted. He batted .394 with 14 RBI in 23 games in his senior year in high school. His oldest brother, Marques Tuiasosopo, played quarterback for the UW and now plays for the Oakland Raiders; his brother, Zach, currently plays for the UW Husky football team.
