Knoxville Ice Bears News Release
Knoxville Icebears Head Coach Mike Craigen has announced the return of Matt Pierce for the 2012-2013 season.
Pierce, who was a teammate of Coach Craigen on Knoxville's 2008 Championship team, will fill the third and final veteran position on the Icebears roster.
During his rookie season with the Icebears, Pierce scored 22 goals, and concluded the season by scoring at least one point in 11 of Knoxville's final 12 games. That season ended with Knoxville capturing both the SPHL regular season and playoff championships.
Since his rookie season in Knoxville, Pierce has played in the CHL, where he has produced 63 goals and totaled 134 points in the previous four seasons. Last season Pierce appeared with the Evansville Icemen, scoring 15 goals and adding 13 assists in 66 games.
Head Coach Craigen is pleased to have his former teammate back in Knoxville. "Matt Pierce will bring this team an enormous amount of intensity. He competes hard for every puck at both ends of the rink and will be a leader by example on every shift."
