Matt Fiedler Gets Drafted in 9th Round by the St. Louis Cardinals

(Rochester, Minn) - Former Rochester Honker Matt Fiedler was drafted in the ninth round (286 overall) by the St. Louis Cardinals today in the MLB First-Year Player Draft.

Fiedler, a native of Eagan, Minn., hit .366 in his junior season with the University of Minnesota. The Gopher product totaled 47 runs, 12 doubles, eight home runs, and stole 14 bases in 58 games. Fiedler earned Big Ten Player of the Year and All-Big Ten First Team for his play with the Gophers.

On the mound, Fiedler went 7-4 with a 4.32 ERA in his junior season at Minnesota. He threw 89.2 innings, allowed 86 hits, 43 earned runs, walked 39 and struck out 65.

Fiedler played for the Honkers in 2015, hitting .354 with 28 runs, six doubles, eight home runs and 37 RBI in 41 games. On the mound of the Honkers, Fiedler was 2-5 with a 4.27 ERA in 52.2 innings pitched.

The Honkers play St. Cloud Saturday night, with a first pitch set for 6:05 p.m. The Honkers will travel to La Crosse to play the Loggers, with a first pitch set for 5:05 p.m. The Honkers are back home to play the same Loggers team at Mayo Field Monday night, which is MN Bankers Association Night, with a first pitch set for 7:05 p.m.
