Mallards Prevail in Rain-Shortened Game

Madison Mallards News Release

Madison, WI - After last night's contest against Lakeshore saw the Mallards fall short following a two-hour rain delay, the green and gold needed only five innings to earn the win against Wisconsin Rapids tonight.

Dark clouds of lightning and rain came overhead within minutes of the end of the fifth inning. The game was sent into a lightning delay and was eventually called due to unplayable field conditions. With five innings in the book and Madison clinging on to a one-run lead, the game was called after almost a two-hour rain delay.

The weather was hot and humid in the first inning when Lucas Halstead (Pacific) lifted a two-run bomb over left center that gave the Mallards the early lead, his second home run in as many games. That single swing accounted for all of the Mallards runs and half of the team's hits. A Sam Armstrong (Jacksonville) single in the fourth would make up the other half.

Colin Brockhouse (Ball State) turned in another solid outing in front of the home fans, throwing all five innings, walking four and striking out one to accompany the lone unearned run he surrendered. He escaped trouble early on, exiting the first inning unscathed after walking the bases loaded with only one out.

Defense proved to be a liability for the second straight night for the Mallards, even in a shortened game. Madison tallied three errors in the victory, with one of the runners coming around to score.
