Matt Coronato Named USHL Forward of the Week
GENEVA, ILLINOIS - Chicago Steel forward Matt Coronato has been named United States Hockey League Forward of the Week for the first time in his USHL career, the league announced Tuesday.
"Matt has had an amazing start to this season," said Steel Head Coach Brock Sheahan. "He literally never takes a shift off and has been the most consistent player on our team in every aspect of the game. It is great to see the league recognize his efforts so far and as a staff we are proud of the progress Matt has made as a player. Every time he is on the ice, good things happen and that is a credit to Matt and the work he puts in every day."
Coronato, the native of Huntington, New York, put up multi-point performances in all three games played this week for Chicago.
He registered a goal and a helper in back-to-back games on Nov. 25 in a 7-4 loss to the Green Bay Gamblers and Nov. 27 in a 5-4 shootout win over Team USA (U17).
The 5-foot-10, 180-pound forward finished his week by matching a career-best four-point game (1G, 3A) in a 6-3 victory against Team USA (U18).
This season, Coronato leads the USHL with 16 points (7G, 9A) in six games including five performances with multiple points. Dating back to the 2019-2020 campaign, the Harvard University commit has reached the scoresheet in his last 15 games played for the Steel, totaling 30 points (14G, 16A) over that stretch.
Coronato was listed as a 'B'-level prospect on NHL Central Scouting's preliminary 2021 NHL Draft watch list, released on Oct. 27.
The Steel are back in action on Dec. 4 with a tilt against the Dubuque Fighting Saints at 7:05 pm CT at Mystique Community Ice Center in Iowa. Following the road game, Chicago squares off against Team USA (U18) on Dec. 5 with a 7:35 pm CT start time at Fox Valley Ice Arena.
