Where to Watch
Stream: Paramount+ Twitch (International)
Previous Result:
CHI: Bianca St-Georges and Ella Stevens scored their first regular season goals to lead the Red Stars to a 2-1 victory over Racing Louisville FC.
SD: Alex Morgan scored 4 goals to lead the Wave to a 4-0 shutout over NJ/NY Gotham FC.
Storylines:
New Kids on the Block: The Chicago Red Stars are set to play their first game against the Wave in their inaugural season. Despite the Wave being a new team, there will be some familiar faces to the Red Stars. The team will face off against former Red Stars forwards, Katie Johnson and Makenzy Doniak.
Off to a Strong Start: The Red Stars are coming off their first ever win over Racing Louisville FC followed by an off week due to the Washington Spirit advancing to the Challenge Cup final. Ella Stevens and Bianca St-Georges scored their first NWSL regular season goals last week. They join four other Red Stars in scoring goals this year, with Mallory Pugh and St-Georges being the only multi-goal scorers so far between the Challenge Cup and regular season.
Putting It All Together: Despite the extended break between games, the Red Stars are still battling injuries and waiting for the arrival of other players. This has caused the coaching staff to get creative with the lineups and rely on rookies who are stepping up to the challenge. This will be no different against San Diego as some players are still recovering and the coaching staff will have to think of creative ways to stop the always-dangerous Alex Morgan and jump-start the offense.
