Sacramento Republic FC News Release
Sacramento Republic FC will travel to Scottsdale, Ariz. to take on Arizona United SC on Saturday, June 13, at Scottsdale Stadium. Kickoff is 7:30 p.m. PDT.
This is the first of two meetings between Republic FC and Arizona United SC this season. Last season Republic FC won the season series 2-1-1, including a 1-1 tie at Hughes Stadium when former Republic FC player Chad Bartlomé scored in the 94th minute to equalize.
Republic FC enter the match after falling 1-0 to the Austin Aztex on Saturday, June 6. Republic FC outshot the Aztex 20-4 and provided constant pressure on the defense but were unable to get a goal, just the third USL loss for Republic FC in Bonney Field history.
Republic FC forward Cameron Iwasa has been active on offense in the last two matches, both starts for the rookie. Iwasa was involved in the lone goal against Real Monarchs SLC on May 30, playing a great through ball to midfielder Ivan Mirkoviæ who recorded his first assist as a member of Republic FC, playing the ball across the David Estrada for the goal. Iwasa also drew a penalty against Real Monarchs, beating his man in the box before being taken down.
The Republic FC defense, anchored by Mickey Daly and Nemanja Vukoviæ, has played well recently on the road. In the last three road matches, Republic FC has given up just three goals, including a shutout. Two of the goals were given up when they were down a man and playing in thunderstorms against Oklahoma City Energy FC.
Republic FC have been plagued with suspensions lately. Midfielder Rodrigo Lopez will serve the third match of his three-match suspension on Friday following a red card against Energy FC on May 23. Forward Justin Braun will serve a one-match suspension on Friday after he picked his fifth yellow card of the season against the Austin Aztex. Mirkoviæ served his one-match suspension for caution accumulation against the Aztex on June 6. Republic FC defenders Daly and Derek Foran both have four yellow cards entering Saturday's match.
Arizona United SC enter the match on a two-match losing streak and 1-5-1 since April 18. During the two-match skid, Arizona United SC has gone scoreless in their last 201 minutes played and have conceded seven goals.
Arizona United SC is led by forward Long Tan, who has scored four goals and recorded an assist on the season. Arizona United SC relies heavily on Tan for their offense and have not won a match this season when Tan has not registered a goal or assist.
Republic FC will host a watch party at de Vere's Irish Pub located at 1521 L Street in Midtown Sacramento. The match will be live streamed at SacRepublicFC.com/matchday and updates will be provided via Twitter @SacRepublicFC or using #AZvSAC.
