Wilmington, NC - Wilmington Hammerheads FC welcomes New York Red Bulls II to Legion Stadium for the first time during the regular season on Saturday, June 13 at 7:00 p.m. EDT.
The two teams met on the pitch of Red Bull Arena in early April as the Hammerheads claimed their first victory of the season. Forward Nick Zimmerman tallied two goals in the first half, putting pressure on NYRBII to find the back of the net. However, Wilmington was the only side to secure any goals as New York City FC loanee Andres Mendoza added another for the Hammerheads after burying a penalty kick minutes before the end of the match.
The Hammerheads have struggled to find a full victory since and recently hosted the Charleston Battery to a 1-1 draw last weekend. Sunny Jane notched his first individual goal of the season, but was unfortunately matched later with an own goal off teammate Ashani Fairclough late in the second half.
"We feel like we did enough to get three points last week and are disappointed to have come up short," said Wilmington Hammerheads FC Technical Director and Head Coach Carson Porter. "This has motivated the group and we look forward to Saturday's game. The crowd was fantastic last weekend and we are feeling the support from the community and are desperate to get a win at home for our fans."
Red Bulls II enters Saturday's match following a 2-2 draw on the road versus FC Montreal. Midfielder Leo Stolz was recently named to USL Team of the Week for his goal off a free kick and being an influential factor in the match against Montreal. NYRBII currently holds a record of 0-2-2 on the road. The Hammerheads hold a home record of 0-2-4 this season as they still search for their first victory at Legion Stadium.
Saturday's match at Legion Stadium will be broadcast live on Wilmington Hammerheads FC's YouTube channel at www.youtube.com/WilmHammerheadsFC. Following this weekend's match Wilmington is scheduled to play the Richmond Kickers on Saturday, June 20 at 7:00 p.m. EDT at City Stadium.
