July 8, 2022 - National Women's Soccer League (NWSL)
Chicago Stars FC News Release
Long Time, No See: The Red Stars and the Courage have not gone toe to toe since August 15, 2021 during the 2021 NWSL Regular Season. The match concluded with a 1-0 win for the Courage. The two clubs have a long history, dating back to 2017 when the Courage defeated the Red Stars 1-0 in the NWSL Semifinal during the Courage's inaugural season. However, Chicago has never lost to North Carolina at home during the regular season.
Shinning (Red) Stars: The Red Stars continue their successful season, posting a 5-1-4 record thus far in the season. Mallory Pugh is ranked third in the league for goals and second for shots on goal, and Ava Cook is ranked first for assists. Ella Stevens joined Mallory Pugh as the second Red Star player this season to have both a goal and an assist in the same game during the July 2nd match against Gotham FC while Tatumn Milazzo and Mallory Pugh were named in the NWSL's Best XI of the Month in June. Also in June, Mallory Pugh, Alyssa Nahaer, Ava Cook and Bianca St-Georges were all called up for international duty.
Home is Where the Shutouts Are: After facing OL Reign, the Washington Spirit and the Orlando Pride at home in June, the Red Stars are looking to extend their streak of clean sheets at home. This is the longest streak in club history, and the only other team to keep a run of three straight shutouts at home this season is OL Reign, who currently have five straight clean sheets.
