North Carolina FC News Release
CARY, NC (September 12, 2014) - The Carolina RailHawks (3W-1T-6L, 10pts) return to NASL action on Saturday, September 13th to take on league-leading San Antonio Scorpions (7W-1T-2L, 22pts) at WakeMed Soccer Park. Saturday's match-up is schedule to kick-off at 7:30pm and will be featured as the NASL Match of the Week on ESPN3. Saturday's match will also be televised on WRAL2, web streamed online at NASLlive.com and available on the radio at 99.9HD-3 The Ticket.
The RailHawks arrive to Saturday's match-up after a controversial 2-2 draw in Canada against Ottawa Fury FC this past weekend. In the final moments of second-half stoppage time, Ottawa forward Oliver scored a controversial equalizing goal, in which the ball did not appear to fully cross the line.
Meanwhile, last week San Antonio stretched their lead in the NASL Fall Season Standings to four points and also took over the top spot in the Combined Standings with last Saturday's 3-0 win over FC Edmonton at Toyota Field.
RailHawks Notes:
RailHawks Sign Former UEFA Cup Finalist Nacho Novo
With the second half of the 2014 NASL Season already underway, the Carolina RailHawks are reinforcing their offense with the signing of Spanish forward, Nacho Novo. Novo, a forward with 16-years of professional experience, spent most of his playing career with Glasgow Rangers. The veteran forward has also seen action in Spain's La Liga with Sporting de Gijon, Polish top division Legia Warsaw, then Scottish Premier League side Dundee and most recently Football League One side Carlisle United.
RailHawks Acquire Devon Sandoval On Loan
The Carolina RailHawks have acquired former MAC Hermann Trophy semifinalist, Devon Sandoval, through a loan from Major League Soccer's Real Salt Lake. The Albuquerque native was selected by Real Salt Lake in the second round (29 th overall) of the 2013 MLS SuperDraft. In his two seasons with Real Salt Lake, he has made a total of 32 MLS Regular Season appearances scoring three goals in 1,518 minutes. His most memorable goal thus far was the game-winner in the first leg of last year's Western Conference Championship series against Portland Timbers.
Coach's Quote
"Saturday's game is very important for us. We picked up a very important point on the road this past weekend in Ottawa and we need to make sure we secure the three points at home this weekend. San Antonio plays very well, and their position in the table shows that. We need to get our form back and start winning games at home in front of our great fans."
