ATLANTA - Atlanta United returns to action on Sunday, Oct. 28 when it travels to face reigning MLS Cup champions Toronto FC at BMO Field on MLS' Decision Day. Atlanta enters the match in first place in the Supporters' Shield race (21-6-6, 69 points) while Toronto sits in ninth place in the Eastern Conference (9-18-6, 33 points). The match is scheduled to kick-off at 4:30 p.m. EST and will be televised on FOX Sports Southeast.
Atlanta maintains a one-point lead at the top of the league standings heading into the final matchday of the regular season and a win at Toronto would hand the club the Supporters' Shield.
Atlanta is coming off a 2-1 win over Chicago Fire at Mercedes-Benz Stadium on Oct. 21. Franco Escobar scored the first goal of his Atlanta United career to give Atlanta the lead in the ninth minute. Michael de Leeuw leveled the match for Chicago, however a Johan Kappelhof own goal proved to be the difference. With the result, Atlanta secured a bid in the 2019 CONCACAF Champions League as the American team with the highest point total over the 2017 and 2018 MLS regular seasons.
Toronto FC fell 2-0 to Montreal Impact at Stade Saputo on Oct. 21. Ignacio Piatti scored a second-half brace for Montreal, first from the penalty spot in the 74th minute before sealing the win in the 89th minute. Toronto FC, the 2017 Supporters' Shield and MLS Cup Champions, have been eliminated from postseason competition.
