Atlanta United FC News Release
ATLANTA - Atlanta United returns to action on Saturday, April 7, when it hosts 2018 MLS expansion side LAFC at Mercedes-Benz Stadium. The match, presented by AT&T, is scheduled to kick-off at 5 p.m. EST and will be nationally televised on ESPN.
Atlanta United defeated Minnesota United FC 1-0 on Saturday, March 31, at TCF Bank Stadium. Atlanta United scored first in the 3rd minute when Tito Villalba's headed attempt hit the crossbar and bounced off of Minnesota captain Francisco Calvo and into the net for an own goal. After defender Leandro González Pirez was sent off for his second yellow card in the 38th minute, Atlanta put in a strong defensive performance to earn the three points on the road and the team's first clean sheet of the season.
LAFC is coming off a 4-3 loss to LA Galaxy on March 31 at StubHub Center in the first edition of "El Trafico." LAFC held a 3-0 lead in the 60th minute after two first-half goals from Carlos Vela and a Galaxy own goal in the 48th minute, yet the home side scored four straight goals to complete the comeback, including a brace and the game-winner from new signing Zlatan Ibrahimovich.
