Miami - The Confederation of North, Central America and Caribbean Association Football (Concacaf) announced today the decisions of the Concacaf Disciplinary Committee in cases involving Club America (MEX), Toronto FC (CAN), and player Jair Pereira of CD Guadalajara (MEX).
The Disciplinary Committee has fined Toronto FC and Club America, and suspended CD Guadalajara player Jair Pereira for two (2) matches, for infractions that occurred during this week's Scotiabank Concacaf Champions League semifinal legs.
After due examination of the evidence gathered during their investigation and based on the Scotiabank Concacaf Champions League Regulations, and the FIFA Disciplinary Code, the Committee determined that Toronto FC and Club America clearly infringed the Competition Regulations, specifically Art. 52 of the FIFA Disciplinary Code which covers team conduct. In levying the fines for general team misconduct during the halftime of Tuesday's semifinal match in Toronto, the Committee expressed that it considers the clubs' conduct unacceptable, as it departs from the principles of Fair Play.
Additionally, following the match between CD Guadalajara and New York Red Bulls played Wednesday night in Guadalajara, the Committee reviewed an incident that took place in the 84th minute. Jair Pereira of CD Guadalajara was observed to commit an act of physical aggression against an opponent, while the ball was not in play.
The Committee determined that Pereira violated articles IV par. B.10 and art. VII par. A.2 of the Competition Regulations, and art. 48 par. 1.d), 77 par. a) and 96 pair. 3 of the FIFA Disciplinary Code regarding physical aggression. A suspension of two (2) matches was imposed on Pereira in accordance with the Competition Regulations and the FIFA Disciplinary Code.
