Phoenix Rising FC News Release
SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. (July 11, 2015) - Arizona United Soccer Club (7-7-1) is back on the road to square off with Seattle Sounders FC 2 on Sunday, July 12. Kickoff is set for 5 p.m. from Starfire Stadium in Tukwila, Washington. The match will be streamed live at arizonaunited.com.
Fans are encouraged to join the official watch party for the match on Sunday at Gordon Biersch (6915 N 95th Ave Glendale, AZ) in the Westgate entertainment district. The party begins at 4 p.m.
Arizona United SC comes off a 2-0 win over Orange County Blues FC on July 5. Goals from midfielders Scott Morrison and Jose 'Chiva' Cuevas, and a 13-save performance from goalkeeper Carl Woszczynski, sealed Arizona's third consecutive win at home. The victory keeps Arizona United SC in the playoff hunt at 7th place in the Western Conference standings with 22 points. The top six teams in the conference make the playoffs.
"Guys are coming together, it's definitely a big part of our game," Cuevas said. "Going to Seattle is going to be very tough. They are very good at home, but we'll see what happens."
Sunday's match is the second and final meeting between the clubs this season. The teams first met last month at Scottsdale Stadium, a 2-1 Arizona win. S2 drew first blood that evening with an 11th-minute header. But Arizona United SC overcame the one-goal deficit thanks to a 59th-minute goal from forward Jonathan Top and a 63rd-minute header from forward Long Tan.
At the time, Arizona United SC head coach Michael Dellorusso said: "I thought it was one of our most complete performances of the year. I don't think it's perfect yet and where we want to be, but that was the goal tonight. To have the most complete 90 minutes of the year. And I think we did that."
Coming into the weekend, Tan leads the team in scoring with seven goals, plus one assist. Top is the team's second-leading goal scorer with three goals while adding two assists.
Seattle Sounders FC 2 enter Sunday's match coming off a 3-1 road loss to Vancouver Whitecaps FC 2 on July 4. They are led by midfielder Pablo Rossi (six goals and two assists) and forward Andy Craven (five goals and five assists). The club is 3rd in the Western Conference standings with 29 points.
