Austin Aztex News Release

Salt Lake City, Utah (Saturday, July 11, 2015) - The Austin Aztex fell to 5-9-3 on the season when they lost 3-1 to Real Monarchs SLC (2-9-6). Even with the loss, the Aztex find themselves just five points away from the coveted sixth-place position in the standings needed to qualify for the USL playoffs.

Trevin Caesar opened up with the first goal of the game in the 28th minute before Real Monarchs answered back with a goal each from Maikon Orellana and Ricardo Velazco to give the home team the 2-1 advantage after the opening half. Emery Welshman added a third goal from the home team in the 70th minute.

The Aztex made a handful of changes to the starting lineup, looking for the squad's first win since June 6. Greg Mulamba made his Aztex USL debut in midfield alongside Tony Rocha and Andres Cuero. This change helped lead the Aztex to their first goal in the 28th minute when Mulamba stepped in for a challenge on Monarchs defender Lucas Baldin, popping the ball free. Aztex forward Trevin Caesar took the ball, turned around and curled a shot past Monarchs goalkeeper Eric Osswald.

The Monarchs would answer back 10 minutes later with two goals in quick succession. In the 38th minute, the Monarchs won the ball from a 50-50 challenge, freeing up a quick attack with numbers advantage against the Aztex defense. Welshman won the ball and hit it to his right to Velazco, who hit a cross to an open Orrellana on the left side. Orrellana slid the ball past Perales for the equalizer. The Monarchs took the lead in the 40th minute when Orrellana fed Velazco the ball on the right side, who hit the ball past Perales for the second goal.

With the sudden change of events, the Aztex made two substitutions at the half, sending in Travis Golden for Fernando Timbo and Guaraci for Greg Mulamba. However, Head Coach Paul Dalglish was forced to use a third substitute early in the second half when Golden had to leave in the 52nd minute due to injury.

Looking to mount a comeback and to score more goals, Dalglish used his last two substitutions to bring in Sainey Touray and Romain Gall. The Aztex were pushing the ball forward and looking to get the equalizing goal. However, in the 70th minute, the Monarchs cleared the ball away from their own corner toward Welshman, who beat Lance Rozeboom for a one-on-one versus Perales. Welshman sidestepped Perales and put the game away with his third goal on the evening.

The Aztex return to Kelly Reeves Athletic Complex for the first of two consecutive games versus Arizona United SC on Friday, July 17 at 8 p.m.
