FC Montreal News Release
MONTREAL - FC Montreal will face the Pittsburgh Riverhounds Sunday at 4pm, on the synthetic field at Stade Saputo.
The Bleu-blanc-noir is back from Rochester where the team lost 2-1 against the season leader. Despite the loss, it was one of the best team performances since the beginning of the USL season.
"We have to keep going with our good performances from the last two games even if the result was negative," explained head coach Philippe Eullaffroy. "The quality and the performance on the field helped us progress since the beginning of the season. Now, we have to continue this way."
In the last meeting between Montreal and Pittsburgh, the Pennsylvania club bettered its opponent with a 1-0 win. Defensively, the play was still satisfying for Philippe Eullaffroy's men, as the Riverhounds are the best attacking team in the league with 33 goals scored this season. With a 7-5-4 record, Pittsburgh is now fifth in the Eastern Conference.
"In the last meeting, we didn't play so bad, but we didn't have enough chances on the net," said winger Fabio Morelli. "We had a good preparation, but it wasn't enough in the last third. Defensively, the game was good. We know them so we know there's something good to do here if we stay organised defensively and capitalize on our chances in offense."
With 11 goals this season, Riverhounds midfielder Rob Vincent is on top of the USL scorers, and his teammate Kevin Kerr is the third best passer of the league with six passes.
"Our role is to make the players aware of the specific characteristics of their opponent, including individuals," added Eullaffroy. "Now, we don't organize our play based on the other team, but we want the players to be ready."
Admission to the game will be free and also available by streaming on www.impactmontreal.com/fcmontreal.
