Match Notes: Atlético Ottawa at Halifax Wanderers November 7

November 7, 2021 - Canadian Premier League (CPL) - Atletico Ottawa News Release

Atlético Ottawa concludes its 2021 campaign this Sunday (KO 1PM EST, live on OneSoccer) when it travels to Halifax to face the Wanderers one final time. While Halifax is still fighting for the final playoff spot, Ottawa will look to offer an inspiring performance that will have fans wanting more throughout the off-season.

The two sides have faced each other five times already this season, with Atlético Ottawa securing one win on its home opener match, finishing with a 1W-1D-3L this year.

Halifax's João Morelli has 8 of the 9 goals Ottawa conceded to the Wanderers, a big chunk of his league-leading 14.

The Atléti has had three scorers this season in those matchups: team-leader Malcolm Shaw (3), Brian Wright (2) and Ryan Telfer (2).

Since four of the five matches have ended in a 2-1 score, one could speculate that the "magic number" for Ottawa's attack on Sunday will be to score at least 2 goals, calling on GK Dylon Powley to protect a potential lead and close out the match with a win.

Atlético Ottawa currently sits in the seventh position in the league standings, with no real opportunity to make up ground with only one match left. The team will look to play a competitive match and continue building on its recent success heading into a first real off-season.

Players will wear match-day jerseys featuring the Poppy to thank Canada's veterans for preserving the freedoms we enjoy today as part of the Canadian Premier League partnership with The Royal Canadian Legion.

Following the matches (a total of 4 CPL matches, including this one), all jerseys will be individually signed by the players and become available for auction starting on November 11. All proceeds from each auction will be donated to the local branch Poppy Trust Fund to provide financial assistance and support to Veterans, including the Canadian Armed Forces and RCMP, and their families who are in need.

OUT: Brandon John (injury, season); Milovan Kapor (suspension, accumulation).

"We're professional, and we need to have a lot of respect for their supporters, the club and the entire team. I told my players that it doesn't matter what happens after this game because we need to be a very competitive team. We're going to compete, we're going to try to win because it's our responsibility." - Atlético Ottawa head coach Mista
