Match Lookahead: Atleti Visit Valour FC in Winnipeg (8pm Wednesday)

Atletico Ottawa News Release

Atlético Ottawa conclude their three-game away stretch on Wednesday, taking on Valour FC in Winnipeg (KO 8 PM ET, live on OneSoccer). Having already picked up four out of a possible six points, Ottawa will be aiming to end their ventures away from the capital city with a positive result at IG Field.

Wednesday's clash in Winnipeg also offers Head Coach Carlos González's men a chance at redemption after struggling to "manage the key moments of the game," when the two teams met at TD Place back in April.

Here's everything you need to know ahead of Wednesday's kick-off:

Atlético Ottawa currently sit in 3rd place in the CPL table, with 11-points after 7 games. Their opponents, Valour FC, are a place below them, on 9-points from 7 games.

A win for the González's men would allow them to create a 5-point cushion in the playoff spaces.

Atlético Ottawa ended their four-game streak without a win when they beat FC Edmonton 2-1 last week.

Striker Brian Wright picked up his third goal of the season when he put Ottawa ahead in the 40th-minute before Ollie Bassett's second-half penalty made the game safe.

Their respective goals and performances earned the pair a place in the Canadian Premier League 'Team of the Week'.

González decided to rotate his side in Edmonton, leaving defensive duo captain Drew Beckie and Macdonald Niba out of his starting line-up.

José Cunha, who made his professional debut against Valour in April, was handed his second start of the season.

Also in their maiden professional campaigns, Zakaria Bahous and Zachary Roy saw playing time in the second half in Alberta.

In their latest game, Valour surrendered a two-goal lead at defending champions Pacific FC.

The team from Winnipeg have only picked up one win since beating Atlético Ottawa back in April (beating York United 1-0 courtesy of a stunning Sean Rae strike).

Ottawa will return to the nation's capital after this game, facing Pacific FC (June 5th) and York United (June 14th) in what are sure to be enthralling affairs.

Record head-to-head (all-time): 1W-0D-4L; 5 goals scored, 15 goals conceded

"The group is training great. I think that this long week has been good, it's allowed us to approach the improvements we are looking for, giving us time to work on them. The group is in a great moment. The game [against Valour] was a month and a half ago, we have learned from it and the team gives a different image and we must continue to build on that."

- Carlos González, Head Coach

"Obviously as a striker, it's your job to score goals so it's always nice to get one. We didn't take our chances the last time Valour were here and so we know we need to be clinical when we get our chance on Wednesday."

- Brian Wright, Forward
