San Angelo Colts News Release

SAN ANGELO, Texas - Colts starter Luke Massetti matched two Colts season bests tonight - innings and strikeouts, going seven strong frames with nine punchouts, as San Angelo scored early and rolled to a quick 4-2 win over the Alexandria Aces.

Massetti (1-0) struck out the first two hitters he faced, and only faced serious trouble in two innings, as he equaled his seven-inning start on May 18 and Caleb Rodgers' nine K's on May 17. A crowd of 2,297 enjoyed the win, as San Angelo (8-8) got back to .500, after losing two in a row in Amarillo.

The Colts scores three unearned runs in the first inning, helped by a pair of errors by Aces shortstop Albert Gonzalez. After Tyrone Pendergrass grounded out, John Anderson reached when Gonzalez booted a routine grounder. Bryan Frichter walked and Andres Rodriguez singled for the first San Angelo run against starter Wayne Hedden (0-1). Benny Craig followed with a single to load the bases, and it brought up Aaron Cone. He hit a soft liner to short, and Gonzalez first looked like he was going to catch it on the fly, then tried to short-hop the ball at the last minute to try to get a double play. But the ball scooted away from the shortstop, and two runs scored.

The Colts then cruised the rest of the way. Massetti got a double play with no outs in the third to get out of trouble, and Alexandria (7-9) got its only run off the righty on three singles in the fifth.

In the ninth, Brian Daly pitched around a leadoff homer by Patrick O'Sullivan to pick up his third save of the season, after Justin Robinson threw a scoreless eighth.

Notes: All nine Colts hitters picked up hits, including three by Anderson, who has five three-hit games at home so far in seven games...Pendergrass and Rodriguez extended their hitting streaks to 13, passing Frichter for the longest by a Colts player this season. Bryan Sabatella and O'Sullivan extended their hitting streaks to 14...O'Sullivan now has six home runs and 19 RBIs against the Colts this season...Robinson's scoreless eighth lowered his ERA to a team-best 1.23.
