San Angelo Colts News Release

SAN ANGELO, Texas - The San Angelo Colts announced today that they have deactivated right-handed reliever Taylor Fleming, suffering from a sore arm, and signed right-handed pitcher Chris Weast.

Weast was signed by the Colts in the off-season but was traded to the Alexandria Aces along with a player to be named later for LHP Frank James on April 9. The Star City, Arkansas native went to Training Camp with the Aces but was released before the season began.

The 23-year-old finished his college career in 2007 with Delta State University, a Division-II school located in Cleveland Mississippi. In fact, he and Fleming played their final seasons at Delta State together last year. In 2007, Weast was 5-3 with a 3.78 ERA in 14 appearances, six as a starter, and in 47 2/3 innings pitched, he struck out 31 and walked 17. In 2006, Weast was 8-2 with a 3.44 ERA in 11 appearances, nine as a starter.

Weast also played some infield for Delta State and batted .305 (54-for-177) with 14 RBIs in his junior year and .267 (23-for-86) with 15 RBIs in his senior year.

Fleming is in his second pro season and his second campaign with the Colts after an outstanding rookie year. The side-armer was terrific coming out of the Colts' bullpen last year as the set-up man, posting a 3-1 record with an impressive 1.93 ERA. He averaged almost exactly one strikeout per inning pitched and surrendered only 16 walks. This year, the Clarksdale, MS native is 2-1 with an 8.18 ERA in eight relief appearances.

The Colts continue this three-game series with the Aces at Foster Field on Saturday, May 31. The middle game of this series at 7:05 p.m. on Saturday features a T-shirt giveaway, sponsored by the First Community Federal Credit Union. Advertising, ticket, and group information are available by calling the box office at (325) 942-6587. All Colts games are broadcast live on "Cool 100" - KCLL 100.1 FM and online at the Colts' official website, www.sanangelocolts.com, which is updated daily with the latest team news.
