
Broncos Hold Off Late Rally From Coyotes for Victory

Laredo, TX-The Laredo Broncos scored just enough runs to pick up a 7-5 victory on Friday Night at Veterans Field. The Broncos continue on this 6 game home stand with the middle game of a 3 game series against the Edinburg Coyotes. For more info call (956)-723-BASE (2273).
The Broncos got on the board first in the bottom of the 1st inning. Dwayne White led off with a single and stole 2nd base. He would score on a Luany Sanchez double. Then with two outs Jose Salas doubled in Sanchez to make the score 2-0.
The Coyotes would tie the game up in the top of the 2nd inning. With one out Amado German singled and then advanced to 2nd on a balk by Broncos starter Santo Hernandez. Then with two outs Nick Aranda singled putting runners on 1st and 3rd. Arnada would then steal 2nd and as he did that German would steal home and score. Angelo Fermin would then single scoring Aranda from 2nd and tying the game at 2-2.
Laredo would get those 2 runs back in the bottom of the 2nd. Ivan Reyes would lead off with a double. He would then score on an Anthony Bennett single. Bennett would then steal 2nd and go to 3rd base on a single by Dwayne White. Arnoldo Ponce followed with a single scoring Bennett and giving the Broncos 4-2 lead.
Santo Hernandez cruised in the game despite allowing the 2 runs. He went 7 innings giving up 2 runs on 4 hits. He walked one batter and struck out 5.
Laredo would tack on 2 more runs in the bottom of the 6th inning. Dwayne White was hit by a pitch with one out. Arnoldo Ponce then would single and when the left fielder bobbled White went to 3rd and Ponce took 2nd base. Then Luany Sanchez came up and hit a 2 run single to make the score 6-2.
The Broncos would get on more run in the 7th inning. With one out Ivan Reyes walked. Then Matt Lawman hit a single and that would be followed by a single by Anthony Bennett to score Reyes giving the Broncos a 7-2 lead.
Rusty Jones would come in and pitch a 1-2-3 8th inning and then David Watkins came in the 9th inning and ran into trouble. With one out Jason Arrowood singled and then went to 3rd base on a double by Daryl Jones. Then a wild pitch was thrown allowing Arrowood to score and advancing Jones to 3rd. Nick Aranda would walk to put runners on 1st and 3rd. Then Angelo Fermin hit a groundball that was booted by Jose Salas allowing Jones to score and moving Aranda to 2nd. Then Gary Roche singled in Aranda to cut the lead to 2. But Dan Sausville would come in and get a force out to end the game and give the Broncos a 7-2 victory.
The Broncos had 7 runs on 13 hits and 2 errors, while the Coyotes had 5 runs on 8 hits and 1 error.
The Broncos improve to 9-7 on the season. The Broncos will be back in action on Saturday Night at Veterans Field for the middle game of a 3 game set against Edinburg at 7:30. Jon Odom will be making his first start for the Broncos. He was the player Laredo acquired in the trade for 10 maple bats.
