MASL Ends Regular Season Today
The Major Arena Soccer League (MASL) has decided to end the 2019-2020 regular season effective immediately. The league's Board of Directors voted unanimously this afternoon to act in the best interests of the players, staff and fans of the league.
The decision to end the regular season follows the direction seen in other professional sports across North America, such as the NHL, NBA, AHL, and others along with directives and restrictions from local governments in MASL communities.
"It's a disappointing end to an exciting regular season, but the health and safety of our players, fans and staff is paramount," said MASL Commissioner Joshua Schaub. "It was a significant sacrifice for our owners to forego the remaining regular season games, but it was the appropriate decision considering the gravity of the situation."
As the developments surrounding COVID-19 in our region evolved, the Tacoma Stars remained in daily communication with the League as well as with local and regional health authorities and government officials. Throughout this process, our Club's primary focus has been on the health and well-being of our fans, players, staff, and community. The decision to suspend games and cancel a season is unprecedented, and we appreciate your patience as we have worked through every possible scenario available to us.
As you know, we had three home games remaining on the home portion of our schedule. All three of these games, including the match versus San Diego that was moved to the Tacoma Soccer Center following the Governors announcement yesterday morning, have been cancelled.
The Tacoma Stars, our players, ownership and staff, we would like to personally thank you for your support during this season. This is an unprecedented event in our Nation's history, and your continued support and patience as we have worked through this process is sincerely appreciated. We look forward to getting back on the field in November, and putting a team on the field that we can all be proud of.
