Maryland Black Bears News Release

ODENTON, MD- After a setback Friday night, the Maryland Black Bears looked to even up the weekend series against the New Jersey Titans on Saturday. With many chances on both sides, the puck luck ended up on the side of New Jersey, as they took Saturday in a shootout, 2-1.

The first period saw no scoring, but solid saves from Maryland's Owen Lepak and New Jersey's Zakari Brice to keep the sheets clean after 20 minutes of play. In the second, Maryland put the pressure on the New Jersey net and it paid off late into the frame with Magnus Gadowsky sniping a shot over the shoulder of Brice for his second goal in as many nights and gave the Black Bears the lead going into the second intermission.

Though penalty issues loomed their ugly head, the Black Bears created plenty of chances shorthanded, with a Dimitry Kebreau shot ringing off the post. With the goalie pulled, New Jersey tied the game with 42.4 seconds remaining with Dominick Rivelli tipping a point shot home to tie the game and send it into overtime.

Despite prime chances in overtime, neither the Black Bears nor New Jersey could find a game winner, sending it into the shootout. The only shooter to score in the shootout was the first shooter for New Jersey, Jack Hillier, leaving the Black Bears to gain only a single point from the weekend.

Maryland will be on the road next weekend against New Hampshire and will return home after Thanksgiving to take on Danbury. Tickets are available at Tickets.MarylandBlackBears.com and the Piney Orchard box office. All action is also available on NAHL TV.
