ODENTON, MD - The Maryland Black Bears have used another one of their tenders on former Team Maryland goalie, Andrew Takacs. Takacs is a 6'2, 185-pound goaltender who was born and raised in Dunkirk, Maryland. The talented netminder also attended local DeMatha Catholic High School. Takacs started out with Team Maryland Bantam Major in 2015 and worked his way up to Team Maryland's 16U team. Throughout his high school career, Andrew has averaged 2.29 GAA and a .908 SVS% over a total of 69 games played.
This tender secures the NAHL rights of Andrew Takacs to the Maryland Black Bears for next year's 2019/2020 season. The future is bright for hockey in the Maryland region, and the organization is confident that this will be the first of many Team Maryland players to graduate to the Black Bears!
"Andrew is a very talented NAHL caliber goaltender that has the potential to thrive in this league," said Maryland Black Bears Head Coach Clinton Mylymok. "What's more important is that he is a great kid off the ice and an intense competitor on the ice. He is a Team Maryland product, a Maryland kid, and this is an exciting tender for hockey in this region."
"I've had the pleasure to work with Andrew as his Head Coach, personal goalie coach, and now as a recruiter, scouting him for the Maryland Black Bears," said Team Maryland Hockey Director Chris Ceransky. "Takacs has all the traits you look for in a hockey player. He is a hard worker, has tremendous talent, and is a high-quality person. It makes me very happy to know that he will be kept within this hockey family."
"The path to college hockey runs through Team Maryland," said Maryland Black Bears Owner Murry Gunty. "We will continue to use our resources to support our Team Maryland kids."
