Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Knights News Release
After verbally committing to NCAA Division I Universities, Knights forward Adrian Danchenko along with goaltender Zach Stejskal have officially signed their National Letter of Intent.
The signing means that both North American Hockey League players are guaranteed to arrive and play for their selected school for the 2019-2020 campaign.
For Danchenko, the longest tenured NAHL Knight will join University of Alabama-Huntsville next year. The UAH Chargers are a member of the Western Collegiate Hockey Association.
Currently, Danchenko sits fourth on his team in points, putting together a five goal, 13 point season thus far. Danchenko was named NAHL East Division Star of the Week in October when the 19 year old had a seven point weekend against the Northeast Generals.
Including his time with both the 16U and 18U Wilkes-Barre/Scranton programs, plus playoffs and regular season NAHL games, Danchenko has skated in 172 games while wearing the grey and blue sweater.
On the goaltending side of things, Wilkes-Barre/Scranton net minder Zach Stejskal officially signed on to join the University of Minnesota-Duluth next fall.
A native of Minnesota, Stejskal came to the Knights during the offseason after spending the 2017-18 season in the United States Hockey League with Central Illinois. Since arriving, Stejskal has repeatedly shown highlight performances for Wilkes-Barre, as the keeper holds a .937 save percentage to go with two shutouts in 16 games for the Knights.
Like Danchenko, the goaltender received league honors for being named East Division Star of the Week earlier in the season.
The 18 year old joins a university that is a member of the National Collegiate Hockey Conference. The UMD Bulldogs took home the NCAA Frozen Four Championship last season, giving the school its' second Frozen Four title.
