Rapid City Rush News Release
(Rapid City, SD) - The Rapid City Rush won a wild contest at the Rushmore Plaza Civic Center on Saturday night, pushing the current point streak to four games. The Rush trailed 4-2 in the final period but tallied three goals, including two in the final three minutes by Andrew Martin, to come away with a 5-4 victory. Martin, along with Ryan Menei, picked up three points on the night with two goals and an assist.
Following the trend from the previous night, Ryan Menei and Derek Leblanc lit the lamp on back-to-back shifts to open the scoring. Menei scored on a wrist shot from the top of the left circle at 11:18 followed by LeBlanc's one-timer from the slot at 12:15. The Rush took a 2-0 lead into the first intermission despite being outshot 18-10.
The second period remained relatively quiet until the Oilers converted on a pair of powerplay chances in the final five minutes. Gary Steffes cut the Rush lead in half at the 15:02 mark before Sean Erickson tied the game with 38 seconds left in the period. The Oilers sent only six shots on net, but lit the lamp twice, tying the game after 40 minutes.
The Oilers momentum carried over into the third period, specifically on the powerplay. Netting his second of the game and the third consecutive powerplay goal for Tulsa was Steffes at the 4:33 mark, giving the Oilers their first lead of the game. Just 19 seconds later, the lead was doubled on the fourth unanswered goal by the Oilers, this one picked up by Marty Standish, making it a 4-2 contest. The Rush would stop the bleeding at the 8:20 mark when Menei struck for his second of the game, squeaking a shot through the five-hole of Oilers netminder Ian Keserich. The Rush still trailed by a goal with less than three minutes left in regulation, but the powerplay would convert on its sixth and final chance of the game. After a flurry in front of the net, Andrew Martin batted the puck home from the top of the crease to tie the game at the 17:11 mark. Fifty-five seconds later, Martin would strike again, this time on a 2-on-1 after he snapped a wrist shot home from the right circle, giving the Rush a 5-4 lead.
Rapid City now moves to 6-4-1 overall and have picked up points in five of the last six games.
The Rush now host the Mississippi RiverKings this Tuesday, November 16th at 6:35pm. Tickets are still available for the game.
