Texas AirHogs News Release
GRAND PRAIRIE, Texas - The AirHogs took Game 3 of their 3-game set with the RailCats Wednesday 3-1 on the strength of a terrific start by Sam Martin and a key home run by American Association home run leader Burt Reynolds.
Martin lasted into the 8th, and the righty did not have to face off against more than 4 in any inning. He surrendered a run on a sacrifice fly by LF Cameron Newell in the 3rd, but from the 4th through the 7th faced just the minimum.
His offense helped to immediately erase the 1-0 deficit in the bottom of the 3rd. Michael Hur reached with a 1-out single, and Juan Sanchez followed with a double that pushed him to 3rd. Reynolds then blasted off against Gary Southshore starter Charle Rosario for his Association-leading 15th home run of the season to make it 3-1.
With that score holding, Martin returned for the 8th. He retired the first 2 he faced in the frame only to have Jarred Mederos reach with a base hit and Newell reach on an error. With 2 in scoring position, LHP Tyler Ihrig entered and struck out Matt Petrone to help Gary strand 2 and keep the lead at 3-1.
Carlos Misell pitched a perfect top of the 9th to seal the win and get his 4th save of the season. The win was the 2nd straight and 2nd of the year for Martin. Rosario suffered his 2nd loss.
The AirHogs (14-19) will welcome the Joplin Blasters (13-19) to Grand Prairie on Friday at 7:05 for the first of a 3-game set that will also feature a doubleheader on Saturday. RHP Matt Shepherd is expected to start Game 1.
