'NUTS HANG ON IN LAREDO

The Wichita Wingnuts clinched their fifth straight series victory Tuesday night, hanging on for a 4-3 win over the Laredo Lemurs at Uni-Trade Stadium. After loading the bases in each of the first two innings only to get turned away, the Lemurs took advantage of their bases loaded chance in the third to open the scoring. With two outs, J.D. Pulfer singled home a pair, and Alvaro Rondon added a run-scoring single of his own to make it 3-0. Wichita got a run back in the next half inning, as Brent Dean doubled in a run to get the Wingnuts on the board. In the fifth, the Wingnuts took the lead. Dustin Geiger, Richard Prigatano, and Harrison Kain hit three consecutive two-out RBI singles, turning a two-run deficit into a one-run advantage. After allowing the three unearned tallies in the third, Alex Boshers settled in and did not allow a run over his final three frames. The relief trio of Chase Johnson, Chad Nading, and Frankie Reed got the job done behind Boshers, each working a scoreless inning to help the Wingnuts hang on to clinch the series victory, their fifth straight.

BOSHERS KEEPS ROLLING

Right-hander Alex Boshers continued his strong run since joining the Wingnuts rotation last night, winning his third straight start. The former Tennessee-Martin Skyhawk tied his career-high with six innings of work, turning in his second quality start in his three outings since making the transition from the bullpen. In his three starts, the righty has allowed just four earned runs in 17.0 innings, lowering his season ERA from 4.80 when he joined the rotation, to 3.37.

HOT JUNE CONTINUES

After scuffling to a 4-8 month of May, the Wingnuts have turned things around since the calendar flipped to June, posting a 14-5 record this month, which includes a sizzling 8-1 mark away from Lawrence-Dumont Stadium. Wichita has also won five straight series, after having either lost or split each of their first five series of the season. Since losing a series at home against Gary from June 3-5, the Wingnuts have ripped off 12 wins in their last 14 games, and tonight will try to complete their third series sweep of that timeframe.
