Midland RockHounds News Release

A six-run second inning propelled the RockHounds to a 10-6 win over the San Antonio Missions in the first game of a four-game series at Security Bank Ballpark. The win, the club's sixth-in-a-row, also pushed the 'Hounds into first place (by a half-game) in a very tight second half pennant race in the Texas League South (see below).

The six-run rally was started ... and finished ... by Jefry Marte, who had a pair of hits in the inning and finished the night a perfect 5-for-5, with three doubles, two runs batted in and one run scored. With the 'Hounds trailing, 1-0, Marte led off the second with a double to left field. With one out, the next eight RockHounds reached base ... each time going "station-to-station" ... with the last six batters driving in one run each. Kent Matthes and Conner Crumbliss walked to load the bases, followed by RBI's from Dusty Coleman (single), Beau Taylor (single), Billy Burns (single), D'Arby Myers (walk) and Max Muncy (walk). Marte then closed the scoring with a single to center. All six runs were charged to San Antonio starter Leonel Campos, who entered the game with a 2.08 earned run average and exited with a 3.50 ERA.

Marte added his second RBI with a double in the fourth, bringing home Muncy (walk). The 'Hounds answered a two-run San Antonio seventh inning with a two-run triple from Burns and an RBI single from Myers in the home half of the stretch inning, re-building the lead to 10-3.

Chris Jensen went 6.0 innings, allowing one run on three hits and three walks while striking out four, earning his sixth win.

Kibbles & Bits

- The RockHounds won their sixth straight game ... they also snapped a five-game home losing streak ... the 'Hounds equaled a high water mark for the season, climbing 10 games over .500 at 49-39 ... the RockHounds now lead the season series with San Antonio, 9-games-to-4 ... the South Division is extremely tight, with the RockHounds (11-7) leading San Antonio (11-8) by a half-game, Frisco (10-8) by one and Corpus Christi (10-9) by one-and-a-half. Wednesday at Frisco, the RoughRiders snapped Corpus Christi's six-game win streak, edging the Hooks, 4-3.

- The five-hit game was the first of his career for Jefry Marte, and just the third of the year in the Texas League (Arkansas' Kaleb Cowart went 5-for-6 against the RockHounds on Opening Night and San Antonio's Yeison Asencio went 5-for-6 on May 23 against NW Arkansas). Marte has now reached base in 18-of-his-last-19 games, and is hitting .328 (21-64) in that time.

- After just two innings, eight RockHounds batters had scored a run, driven in a run, or both.

- Former RockHound Jake Goebbert hit his first Major League home run on Wednesday night. Now with the San Diego Padres, Jake was called up to the big league club on June 20. His first home run in The Show came in the Padres' 6-3 loss to the Rockies at Denver, off Jair Jurrjens. There certainly had to be smiles across the Texas League when the home run was posted, as Jake is one of the true "class acts" to have played in the league in recent seasons. Prior to his stint with the RockHounds in 2013, Goebbert spent two years (2011 and 2012) with the Corpus Christi Hooks, and also played at the Triple-A level for the A's at Sacramento.

- The RockHounds and Missions continue this quick, four-game series (and four-game home stand) Thursday night ... "Thirsty Thursday." Friday is Cap Night and fireworks follow Saturday's game. First pitch each evening is seven o'clock.

- Wednesday's games were the start of 26-games-in-26-days for the Texas League, all of it divisional play. The RockHounds and Frisco will actually play 27 games in that period, including a July 22 double-header to make up a June rainout.
