Marlins Suffer Narrow Defeat
June 16, 2011 - Coastal Plain League (Coastal Plain)
Morehead City Marlins News Release
Morehead City, N.C. - The Morehead City Marlins lost 5-4 to the Wilmington Sharks on Thursday night, evening the Marlins' overall record to 8-8 on the season. The loss is the second consecutive 1-point defeat at the hands of the Sharks, who won 2-1 at Big Rock Stadium on Wednesday evening.
In the midst of the loss, however, Marlins slugger Chase McDonald continues to obliterate baseballs. McDonald went 2-for-4 from the batter's box, driving in all of the Marlins' runs on a pair of two-run homers. Through seven games with the Marlins, McDonald is now tied for the team-lead with his three round-trippers. The Marlins first baseman and designated hitter is batting .643 and boasts a monstrous 1.017 slugging percentage.
The Marlins will attempt to surpass the .500 mark on Friday night, hosting the Gastonia Grizzlies for the first time in franchise history. Big Rock Stadium will host another Facebook Friday, and it will also be Progress Energy night at the ballpark. The official start time is set for 7:05 p.m. with gates opening at 6 o'clock.
