Fayetteville SwampDogs News Release
FLORENCE, S.C. - Two trips to Florence, two blowout losses for the Fayetteville SwampDogs.
Every Florence starter had at least one hit and reached base multiple times as the RedWolves pounded the SwampDogs, 17-2, at American Legion Stadium on Thursday night. The SwampDogs have lost all three games against the RedWolves this season, including both games in Florence by a combined score of 31-4.
The top of the order for Fayetteville (9-6) provided the only bright spot. Nick Crucet walked twice, Dillon Checkal singled twice and scored a run, and Eric Grabe walked three times and scored the other SwampDogs run.
Alex Belew (0-1) made his first start for the SwampDogs, lasting just three and a third innings and allowing seven runs. Will Strack gave up six runs in two and a third innings pitched, while Mark Kuzma surrendered four runs in an inning and a third.
Daniel Palo (3-0) started for Florence (8-7), allowing two runs in the first inning that briefly gave the SwampDogs a 2-0 lead. But the RedWolves scored three runs in the second inning, four in the fourth, and then put the game out of reach behind a six-run sixth to snap the SwampDogs two-game winning streak and move within a game of first place.
Michael Campbell pitched the final four innings to Florence to earn his first save of the year.
The SwampDogs return home on Friday and play host to the Wilmington Sharks on NASCAR Night driven by Black's Tire a& Auto Service. Gates will open early at 5:30 p.m. for the annual Fayetteville Fire Department charity softball game. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
