Marlies Release Grennier From ATO

Mike Penny, General Manager of the Toronto Marlies, announced today that the club has released forward Matt Grennier from his amateur tryout contract.

Grennier, 25, appeared in seven games with the Marlies this season, and was held scoreless and registered a minus-three rating with zero penalty minutes. The 6'1, 198-pound centre tallied four shots on goal while playing for the Marlies.

From 2003-08, Grennier played for the Wilfrid Laurier University Golden Hawks, registering 117 points (41 goals, 76 assists) in 122 regular season games. During the 2007-08 season, the Dryden, Ontario native posted 12 goals and 24 assists in 28 contests for the Golden Hawks. He was named the 2003-04 Team Rookie of the Year at Wilfrid Laurier.

The Marlies begin the 2008 Calder Cup Playoffs against the San Antonio Rampage - AHL affiliate of the Phoenix Coyotes - on Wednesday night at Ricoh Coliseum with puck drop scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Game 2 of their first round, best of seven series will be played on Friday at Ricoh Coliseum at 7:30 p.m. Leafs TV will provide exclusive television coverage of the Toronto Marlies in the first round.
