Marco Thomas Returns to Barnstormers for Two More Seasons

DES MOINES - Iowa Barnstormers Head Coach and Director of Football Operations Mike Hohensee announced late Monday night that the team has been assigned Wide Receiver Marco Thomas, on a two-year contract. The deal will keep Thomas a Barnstormer for the 2013 and 2014 seasons. He becomes the fourth player assigned to the Barnstormers roster for the 2013 season.

Thomas (6-0, 190) played his first season with the Barnstormers in 2012. He had a breakout season for Iowa, compiling 138 receptions for 1,523 yards and 21 touchdowns. His 138 receptions were good for 6th best in the AFL, a remarkable number especially when you factor in that teammate Jesse Schmidt had a league-best 172 receptions. Thomas started all 18 games for Iowa in 2012, and had at least one TD in each of the Barnstormers final 12 games of the season.

The 2013 season will be Thomas' fourth in the AFL. Prior to joining the Barnstormers, Thomas spent the 2010 and 2011 seasons with the Chicago Rush and the San Jose Saber Cats. He is a very experienced receiver, having spent time with the NFL's New York Giants, New York Jets, Oakland Raiders and San Diego Chargers. Thomas starred at Western Illinois from 2003-06. As a senior, he led the Leathernecks with 58 catches for 738 yards and 4 touchdowns.
