Marcinko Signs with the Islanders

Barrie, ON- The Barrie Colts today announced that team Tomas Marcinko has signed a three-year NHL entry-level contract with the New York Islanders.

Marcinko, 20, agreed to terms with the Islanders after they selected him in the fourth round (115th overall) in the 2006 NHL Entry Draft.

He has spent the last two seasons with the Colts after he was selected in the first round (55th overall) of the 2005 CHL Import Draft. During his first OHL year in 2006-07, Marcinko recorded 19 goals to go along with 21 assists through 56 games, followed by this season, where he finished second in the team in total points with 19 goals and 26 assists through 48 games. He was tied for the team lead in 2008 playoff points with seven (4g-3a) through nine games.

Originally from Poprad, Slovakia, Marcinko participated for Team Slovakia at the past two Under-20 World Junior Championship teams. He officially became the first European born player named to Colts team captain prior to the 2007-08 season.
