Bradenton Marauders News Release
BRADENTON, Fla. - Luis Peralta tossed four hitless innings for the Marauders Wednesday night and passed the torch to the bullpen, who helped secure a 4-0 win over the Lakeland Flying Tigers at LECOM Park.
Peralta struck out seven and walked just two in his first start of the season for Bradenton (4-1). Lakeland (1-4) did not manage a hit until one out into the fifth inning, when Daneurys de la Cruz grounded a single to right field off Xavier Concepcion (1-0).
The Marauders rallied in the first inning against Flying Tigers starter Nick Davila (0-1). Tsung-Che Cheng lined a one-out double and took third base on an ensuing wild throw to the infield by left fielder Lazaro Benitez. After a Rodolfo Nolasco walk, Jase Bowen laced an RBI-single to left field for the game's first run. Sergio Campana followed with an RBI-single to plate Nolasco, and Alexander Mojica reached on a throwing error by shortstop Cristian Santana, allowing Bowen to score for a 3-0 Marauders lead.
Jacob Gonzalez added his first home run of the season in the fourth, a solo homer off Davila, to extend Bradenton's lead to 4-0.
Marauders pitching allowed just one hit over the final four innings, another single by de la Cruz that came off Wilkin Ramos in the eighth. But no Lakeland baserunner reached second base safely in the game, and catcher Wyatt Hendrie contributed by throwing out Manuel Sequera at second base on an inning-ending strikeout-and-caught-stealing double play.
Ramos earned the three-inning save for the Marauders, allowing just one walk in addition to the de la Cruz single. A diving catch by Nolasco in right-center ended the game, securing the Marauders' first shutout of the season.
The series continues Thursday at LECOM Park with first pitch scheduled for 6:30 p.m. RHP Luis Oviedo is scheduled to start for the Marauders on major league rehab assignment, while the Flying Tigers will counter with LHP Carlos Pena.
